Are AirPods Pro waterproof?

The simple answer is: no, AirPods Pro are not waterproof. But, they are water and sweat resistant. However, the wireless charging case is not. Your AirPods Pro were never designed for use when swimming, doing water sports or for showering. Being water and sweat resistant means they can be used for working out and exercising, but you still need to be cautious around moisture.

AirPods Pro have been thoroughly tested and have a rating of IPX4 under IEC standard 60529.

What Does IPX4 Mean?

An IP rating is used to measure how resistant something is to an element such as water. It stands for Ingress Protection & this rating was introduced by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). This rating is based on a number system with IPX0 offering no protection against water, whereas IPX8 boasts protection when submerged in water over 3 feet. The IPX4 waterproof rating means that the AirPods Pro will be protected from splashing water and can resist this from all angles.

Conditions to Avoid

Yes, AirPods Pro are water resistant, but they most definitely are not waterproof. To avoid water-based damage, we recommend steering clear of these scenarios:

  • Do not put your AirPods Pro under any running water, such as a shower or tap.
  • Do not wear them when swimming.
  • Remove them before entering a sauna or steam room.
  • Remove them before water sports such as water skiing, jet skiing & surfing.

If your AirPods Pro come into contact with excessive liquid or is exposed to any of the above, you should wipe them dry with a soft cloth and allow them to dry out before charging or using them.

To keep your AirPods safe, secure, and prevent any potentially harmful damage, you should consider a protective AirPods Pro Case

How To Clean AirPods Pro

Exposure to sweat and moisture could result in a diminished performance of the AirPods Pro. It is strongly advised that you properly wipe down your AirPods after exercise, as well as giving them a regular clean. You should never attempt to charge wet or damp AirPods Pro and only use them again when fully dry.

As the charging case is not sweat or water resistant, you should avoid contact with all liquids. Likewise with the AirPods themselves, you can clean the case with a soft, lint-free cloth.

About Mous

Dropping phones from 45ft cranes and from helicopters is where it all began for Mous. We discovered that slim cases were not too effective at protecting your phone and those deemed protective were chunky and not too pleasing on the eyes either. So, the Mous mission was to create cases and accessories that were both extremely protective and beautifully crafted. An extensive testing period on leading devices and many, many prototypes later, a hugely successful crowd-funding campaign meant Mous was no longer a dream, but a reality.
